Tasting Notes
The bouquet opens with a captivating blend of dark fruits—blackcurrant and ripe plum—
enhanced by layers of black cherry. Full-bodied and structured. The Actuary delivers a robust
backbone of dark berry flavors, harmoniously intertwined with the plush, velvety mouthfeel of
Syrah. The tannins are finely grained and well-integrated, offering both power and finesse.
The finish is long and satisfying, leaving lingering notes of dark fruit and subtle oak.
Winemaking
The Actuary, named to honor the winemaker’s father, spent 20 months in French Oak, 15%
new. The proprietary blend is crafted to create a bold, but approachable red wine that pairs
well with food, but stands on its own. Washington state is becoming known for the excellent
Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blends. The Actuary add the Cabernet Franc and Tempranillo
to bring in an earthy and savory component to final blend.
Food Pairing
This wine's rich structure and complexity make it an excellent match for hearty and flavorful
dishes. Grilled lamb chops or a classic beef bourguignon aligns beautifully with the wine's
depth and tannins. Braised short ribs enhance the full-bodied profile, and mushroom risotto,
with its earthy flavors, beautifully complements the wine's texture.
